The way a writing team operates is called its model of collaboration. Team members play different roles according to the model the group follows. In the real world, every group interaction will be slightly different.

Here are some basic models of collaboration in professional writing:

Cooperative	One or more writers circulates document among group and all contribute.
Discrete or compartmentalized	Each writer maintains full responsibility only for his or her section of the final document.
Functional	Team roles are divided by function. For example, roles may include organizer, researcher, editor, and illustrator.
