Format and Organization in the Business Memo Memos consist of a title and distribution section, an introduction, a section with discussion or development, and a conclusion. The title and distribution section provides addressing information as well as a title or headline for your memo. The title is the most concise description of your topic. The introduction expands upon the title to provide the reason why the memo is being written and what goal the memo hopes to accomplish. The discussion or development section provides additional background to support the topic, or additional details that are necessary but would make the introduction too long. The conclusion section reiterates the goal of the memo, and generally provides a polite request for action or response.
